The beaches
Lefkada island is mostly famous about the exotic beaches with the clear blue waters, the off white cliffs & the vegetation.
Porto Katsiki beach is one of the most beautiful beaches of the island with the dark turquoise waters, clear as a precious stone, make a striking contrast with the towering sugar-white rock behind it and the golden stretch of sand.
Mylos, considered one of the two loveliest beaches. It’s rather difficult access has saved it from the crowds and its endless stretches of immaculate beach and waters can be enjoyed with plenty of space from other swimmers.
Gialos is the longest beach in Lefkada and the quietest one during the summer. If you walk enough on the south part of the beach you will probably be alone and you will definitely enjoy your time there.
Another beautiful beach is Agiofyli. You have to take a boat from Vasiliki port to get there (10 min.). It is a small beach which it doesn't get wavy often, like the beaches on the west part of the island.
The closest beach to the villa is Nkiana beach - 6km .
Sightseing
The Red Church
One of the most interesting things to do is a visit in the monastery Kokyni Eclesia (Red Church). The name of the monastery comes from the red clay that exists in the region and was used during the temple's construction. It was build in 1478 and it is abadoned since 1925.
Agios Ioannis
Another monastery near Alexadros is Agios Ioannis Tou Prodromou in Karya's plain, wi was build in 1625. You can find it open every 23rd & 24th of June, the dates of the monastery's celebration.
Profitis Elias
The chapel is located near Karya, after the military base a narrow and steep road leads up to this mountain peak, at 1,012 metres height. It offers a panoramic view from Lefkada town to Prigiponisia islands in Nydri.
Hiking
Hike through Skaron Forest
Located near Alexandros village in the river-crossed mountains of Lefkada, this forest is made up of centuries’ old moss-draped trees, along with a very rare type of oak which can only be found in Lefkada and in a handful of other forests in Europe. Skaron Forest is exceptionally beautiful and plays a vital role in the island’s eco-system. This fact was only highlighted during the Venetian and Ottoman occupation, when guards were posted throughout the forest to protect it. If you’re an avid hiker and look forward to the climb all the way up, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the island’s dozens of villages as well as beautiful sea views. Hikers will occasionally run into wild goats and look out for herds as you explore.The trail starts in Kolyvata, just 1km from the villa.
Melissa gorge
The gorge is on Munisipality of Sfakiotes and you can either reach it from Kavalos village or from the road that leads from Lazarata village to Lefkada town (there is a sign on your left hand). It is runned by signposted trails that pass by stone and wooden bridges, old mills, wells and rich vegetation. It is a trekking with overall length of 2.202 meters, which can be completed in 45 minutes.
